The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was more than 100 feet tall and stood on a 50-foot marble pedestal. It portrayed the titan Helios, the personification of the Sun in Greek mythology and patron god of the island of Rhodes. The gas helium, the second-most abundant element in the universe, takes its name from him.
