ROMAN ROADS, A NETWORK OF 80,000 KM LONG ALL OVER THE WORLD.
The streets realized by the Romans are, together with the aqueducts, the most important concrete testimony of the capacity of Roman engineering.
The Romans have created a communication network through which they have brought their civilization to every corner of the world. Over 350 major Roman roads cross over 80.0000 km: the Roman streets ranged from Scotland to Mesopotamia and Sahara, from the Atlantic to the Red Sea.
Created to linking the territories conquered with Rome and enabling the rapid movement of the army, the capillary road network favored the Romanization of peoples and the exchange of ideas and culture.
A curiosity: the Roman roads were public, open to all, with no exclusions or privileges! In the great previous civilizations – Egyptians and Persians – the Pharaohs and the Sovereigns could only walk on the streets.
