The average population of the 17 most populated African metropolises is 4.3 million, smaller than the international average of 7.5 million. Cairo and Johannesburg are the largest urban areas. Population density is relatively high compared to world averages but varies significantly across African metropolises.
This important population is the lead of many urban challenges that need to be met to take advantage of urbanization.
